Consumer prices in the Grand Duchy rose 3.8% compared to September 2010, according to the rich country club OECD and the European Central Bank. Much of the increases were driven by energy prices, which were 13.1% higher than the year before.

Prices gained three percent in the 17 countries that use the euro and 3.3% on average across the 27 nation European Union. The rate in Belgium was 3.4%, France 2.4% and Germany 2.9%. All registered double-digit hikes in energy costs.

Inflation in the UK was 5.2% and 3.9% in the US, but only 0.2% in Switzerland and zero percent in Japan.

The OECD noted that the pace of inflation increased over August.
