Den Atelier has announced that one of the great icons of British comedy, John Cleese, is to perform at the Rockhal on 6 May next year. Cleese, who turns 76 next week (he was born on 27 October, 1939) is brings his new show, “Last Time To See Me Before I Die” to the Belval venue.
Cleese started out in comedy in the “Cambridge Footlights Review” while he was studying at university, and later joined the team of the satirical TV show “The Frost Report”.
But it was as a founding member of “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” that Cleese shot to fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Python showcased Cleese’s skilful physical comedy, as in the “ministry of silly walks” and his more angry comedy in the famous “dead parrot sketch”. He also starred in Python films “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and “Monty Python’s The Life Of Brian”.
Post Python, he went on to even greater success as pompous hotelier Basil Fawlty in “Fawlty Towers”.
