The total number of students enrolled at the university during the 2010-2011 academic years was 5,177, François Biltgen, minister of higher education and research, reported during a press conference. That number is up from 4,934 during 2009-2010 and 4,517 in 2008-2009. Approximately three out of five students were pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

More than half of students at the university continue to come from abroad, Biltgen stated. The figure was 53 percent during the last academic year, up slightly from 52 percent in 2009-2010 and 50 percent in 2008-2009. While 43 percent of students last year came from other EU countries, ten percent came from outside the union.

Biltgen said that the figures “testify to the dynamism and growth of the University of Luxembourg.”

The government also issued more than 13,000 financial grants, including to students at technical colleges, totalling more than 80 million euro. Nearly 30 percent of the students receiving aid came from other EU nations, and four percent from non-EU countries.
