Weber had repudiated allegations made against ProActif that it had falsified its turnover in order to receive additional subvention money from the state. According to reports first broadcast by radio station 100,7, auditors believe ProActif may have to pay back as much as 2.9 million euro in subsidies.

After Weber had said there was no truth in the allegations, ProActif’s director Romain Schmit admitted that there had been irregularities in the association’s accounts.  Rumours at the weekend suggested that Schmit was subsequently suspended for his remarks.

In a press statement from the LCGB, the union says that Weber will now focus on undertaking the necessary restructuring of ProActif recommended by employment minister Nicolas Schmit. LCGB general secretary Patrick Dury will temporarily be in charge of the union, working closely with vice-presidents Nico Hoffmann and Georges Conter.
