Renowned and divisive John Maynard Keynes British economist put forward the theory that in the short run, economic output is strongly influenced by total spending in the economy, especially during recessions. Paperjam Club has invited four speakers to debate if Keynes was right in providing solutions to overcoming the 2008 financial and economic crisis.
The debate, in English, is another collaboration with the Oxford Union Society, considered to be the world’s most prestigious debating society. It has been at the cutting edge of controversial debate, attracting famous speakers ranging from Winston Churchill to Michael Jackson.
Speaking on behalf of the motion “Economic Crisis: Keynes was right!” are Marc Wagener (director of economic affairs, Chambre de commerce du Luxembourg) and Carlo Klein (faculty member, Miami University’s Luxembourg Campus).
Speaking against the motion are Hilmar Schneider (general director, LISER, formerly CEPS/INSTEAD) and Christos Koulovatianos (professor of economics, University of Luxembourg).
