EU member state representatives have chosen the dates of 6 to 9 June 2024 for the next European elections.

Between 6 and 9 June 2024, European voters will head to the polls. The ambassadors of the 27 EU member states set this period for the next European Parliament elections, the Swedish presidency of the EU Council announced on Twitter. This is despite the bank holidays on 10 June in Portugal, which could affect the country's turnout.

The dates must still be formally adopted on Monday 22 May by the European Council, according to press reports.

“I encourage everyone to recapture the sense of hope and possibility that the European Union offers. To vote. Do not let someone else choose for you. Be part of the largest democratic exercise in Europe,” European Parliament president Roberta Metsola following the announcement on 17 May. “The European Union is evolving continuously. The world is changing and we must change with it. We need reform. We cannot be afraid of change. The EU is not perfect. We must embrace it as we keep listening, keep explaining and keep delivering.”

Next year’s poll will elect the MEPs who will sit in the European Parliament until 2029. Luxembourg currently has six MEPs: (LSAP), (DP), (CSV), (déi Gréng), (independent) and (CSV).
