Findel airport closed its runway until early Wednesday afternoon for repair work. Several flights have been affected.

Luxairport said that localised damage to the asphalt surface of the runway required repair work. The airport closed its runway on Wednesday morning until early afternoon.

In a press release, Luxairport stated that the following flights have been cancelled from Luxembourg: LX751 departing at 10:45 to Zurich, LH2317 at 09:45 to Munich, KL1740 at10h25 to Amsterdam, LH9529 at 11:00 to Frankfurt, FR3109 at 09:35 to Barcelona, TK1354 at10:20 to Istanbul and LG5553 at12:10 to Oslo.

Several flights to Luxembourg have been cancelled, while others have been diverted to other airports. Flights FR3108 arriving at 08:55 from Barcelona, TK1353 at 09:25 from Istanbul, EC7773 at 09:40 from Porto and FR2862 at 10:25 from Porto have been diverted to a destination not communicated by Luxairport. Flights LX750 arriving at 10:00 from Zurich, LH391 at 08:25 from Frankfurt, LH2316 at 09:10 from Munich, KL1709 at 09:55 from Amsterdam and LG5554 at 18:05 from Oslo have been cancelled.

Luxair has announced delays for flights to these cities: Tenerife Las Palmas, Barcelona, Porto, Rome, Vienna, Prague, Venice, Copenhagen and Cagliari. Flights operated by De Havilland Q400 aircraft are not affected, as a temporary solution has been put in place. The airline says it is "ready to resume operations as soon as possible".

Ryanair said to expect delays and encouraged its passengers to follow the updates on its app.

At the time of publication, Luxairport had not got back to us regarding the causes of the damage to the runway, and Lufthansa had not responded to a request for comment.

Luxairport stated in a follow-on press release that its runway was once again operational and flights resumed at around 2:30pm.
