Every week, Foodzilla brings you addresses based around a theme or neighbourhood. This week, we give you some tips on where to try some fluffy pancakes in Luxembourg.

Glow

Coffee corner meets bakery meets healthy food, Glow offers vegetarian and vegan dishes from around the world. And pancakes, of course. The “Tower of Pancake Power” comes with four layers of fluffy pancakes, stuck together with peanut butter, served with bananas and berries, and drizzled with maple syrup. They’re vegan and gluten-free, but you’d never guess that was the case. Try one of the shakes or juices to go along with your pancakes: the “Glowing Green” juice features spinach, fennel, cucumber, celery, apple, mint and parsley and is a good way to kick start your day.

North Bay

North Bay has wonderfully fluffy pancakes--classic, apple & cinnamon, chocolate chip and the Megan (which comes with eggs cooked to your liking and a choice of bacon or sausage)--along with French toast, avocado toast, breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos. The coffee poured from glass carafes completes the North American diner-style atmosphere. A bit on the small side, so make a reservation if you plan to come on the weekend. The guys who run the place always have a smile for you from over the grill and their sidewalk terrace is a lovely place to enjoy brunch in the summer.

Glufree Pancake

Located a few steps away from the central station, Glufree Pancake offers a variety of savoury and sweet pancakes--all gluten-free, inspired by the coeliac disease diagnosis of the founder’s daughter (the autoimmune disorder makes it impossible for those who suffer from the disease to eat gluten). And for those indecisive folks who have difficulty making a selection, never fear: there’s the “Pancake Combo” option that allows you to try one savoury dish and one sweet dish. A special deal for children younger than ten is also available.

Lloyd’s at Hamilius has plenty of pancakes on the menu: from tiramisu pancakes with mascarpone cream and dusted with cacao powder to Australian pancakes, served with bacon and eggs. A matcha latte or one of the ginger detox juices goes well with the sweet and fluffy treats. You order at the counter or via your mobile phone, then take a table and wait for your food to be delivered. Seating is available upstairs (where there’s also a small play corner for children) and on the terrace. Heads-up: it can get very busy on the weekends and the restaurant does not take reservations.

A cycling-themed cafe, as you might be able to guess from the name (and the cycling memorabilia decorating the place), Gruppetto’s fluffy pancakes are sure to fill you up after an intense sports session (or if you’re just in the mood for brunch). Most of the options are on the sweet side (think copious amounts of chocolate), but the “ultimate” pancakes are served with eggs, bacon and maple syrup.

You might be wondering as to why Blends Cafe--a restaurant better known for its Greek food--is on the list. Well, because they’ve got pancakes! (And waffles.) The pancakes aren’t as fluffy as the others on this list and are closer in size to silver dollar pancakes, but they’re still reasonably priced and worth a try. Upbeat environment, faux greenery and flowers dangling from the ceiling, and cocktails--both with and without alcohol--complete the offer.
