On 13 August, the Glacis hosted the last concert of a series of seven gigs organised as part of City Sounds - Glacis in Concert, with the organisers hailing the event a success in pandemic times.

From 6 to 13 August, the City of Luxembourg and the Atelier offered a series of seven open-air concerts at the Glacis, offering the audience an unmasked environment without social distancing thanks to the CovidCheck. “The organisation was flawless, the concerts were superb and it couldn't have been more positive,” said Michel Welter, manager of the Atelier.

Our goal was to create a bubble that was free of covid so that everyone could feel comfortable and enjoy the moment.

The aim of Atelier, which assisted the City of Luxembourg with booking, site set-up and security, was to give concert-goers a taste for concerts and the confidence to attend other shows in the future. "The aim was to create a bubble that was free of covid so that everyone could feel comfortable and enjoy the moment,” Welter said. "The concerts were held outdoors, the space was such that people had room and there were no complications. Everything was well organised, the environment was safe and people felt secure. It's a step in the right direction.”

Spectators were able to experience a semblance of normality, far from the pandemic, at the concerts by Tribute to the Beatles, Meute, Axelle Red, Loïc Nottet, Gentleman, Sido or Majan.

Financial profitability was not a priority. "From an economic point of view, it was obviously not very interesting, as the number of people present and the price of the tickets were deliberately low, but that was not the aim,” says Welter.

Of the seven concerts organised, three were sold out (700 people), while the other four sold between 300 and 400 tickets. The concerts welcomed morea than 3,000 spectators including prime minister Xavier Bettel who was present and shared images on his Instagram account.
