Tributes poured in on social media over the weekend for the 56-year-old former director of the Saint-Paul media group, who has passed away after a lengthy illness.

News of the death of Paul Lenert, who between 2009 and 2013 headed up the Saint-Paul group that published the Luxemburger Wort, was announced on Saturday 2 April. Lenert, who left Saint-Paul in 2013 to become CEO of SkyCom Telematics Systems, a company founded by his brother Claude which specializes in GPS vehicle geolocation systems.

Paul Lenert started his journalism career with the Wort in 1991 after studying economics and business management in Strasbourg. By 1996 he was heading up the Wort’s economy and business desk and in 2002 he was named the paper’s deputy editor-in-chief.

As director he oversaw cutbacks and a restructuring of the Saint-Paul group in 2012 that led to some 70 or so employees being let go. A year later, Lenert left Saint-Paul, which in 2020 was purchased by Belgian group Mediahuis.

Tributes on social media came from former colleagues and friends including CSV politician and former EU Commission Viviane Reding, former Tageblatt editor-in-chief Danièle Fonck and LSAP city councillor Tom Krieps.

Lenert is survived by his wife, Fabienne Hauptert and two children. Delano passes on its condolences to his family and loved ones.
