Pierre Ahlborn, the current CEO of Banque de Luxembourg and member of the board of directors, will retire by the end of the year, bringing to a close a 37-year career with the institution, including 25 years at its head. His successor is not yet known.

The announcement was made yesterday to the bank’s executives and early this afternoon to staff: will be retiring by the end of the financial year, i.e., before 31 December. He will then relinquish his position as CEO. His retirement will be gradual: the question of whether he will remain on the board of directors has not yet been decided, nor has that of appointing a successor. This is a decision for the financial institution’s 100% shareholder, Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale. This departure completes the rejuvenation of the management committee begun in 2023 with the successive departures of Philippe Depoorter and Étienne Planchard.

A discreet, committed and influential figure

Ahlborn joined the bank in 1988 at the age of 26, immediately after completing his studies. An economist by training, he also holds a master’s degree in geography. He joined the executive committee in 1998 and became CEO in 2000. A discreet figure, he rarely took a stand. That didn’t stop him from being named the  in 2014, beating  and the then-chairman of the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry Marc Saluzzi. In addition to his activities at the bank, Ahlborn is very involved in Luxembourg’s economic and cultural life: he sits on the board of directors of the Red Cross (where he is also treasurer), the Philharmonie (), the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, the Luxembourg Bankers’ Associatino (ABBL), the Fondation Idea, as well as the André Losch Fondation.
