The results of Eurobarometer’s autumn 2022 survey, published 12 January, revealed that the rising cost of living is the most important concern for Europeans. In Luxembourg, this is the top worry for 92% of respondents. Europeans also strongly approve of EU actions in support of Ukraine.

Given inflation and the increasing prices of food and energy throughout Europe, people are unsurprisingly the most worried about the rising cost of living. This is the top concern both in Luxembourg (92%) and in the European Union in general (93%).

That being said, when asked to think about their household’s income and their current situation, 80% of people in Luxembourg state that they are living comfortably with their present income. This is much higher than the EU average (54% of respondents say that they are living very or rather comfortably with their present income).

People in Luxembourg are also more satisfied with the measures taken by their national government to tackle the rising cost of living--62% declare themselves to be satisfied, compared to 33% for the EU average.

Strong approval of EU actions in support of Ukraine

In addition, 73% of EU respondents say that they approve of the EU’s actions to support Ukraine, such as sanctions against the Russian government or financial, military or humanitarian support. This figure is even higher in Luxembourg--79%.

Other concerns

Respondents in Luxembourg are also worried about climate change--87%. This is higher than the overall EU average of 81%.

Concern about the spread of infectious diseases, such as covid-19 or monkeypox, are at similar levels in Luxembourg (61%) and in the EU (62%).

The European Parliament’s autumn Eurobarometer survey was conducted in Luxembourg between 12 October and 26 October 2022, and consisted of 507 face-to-face interviews. In the EU, a total of 26,431 interviews were conducted between 12 October and 7 November 2022. Find more information about the results .
