“The decision to revert to our original name from today was a matter of course for all of us, be it the management team, the staff or even our shareholders,” said Ires in a press statement on Tuesday.
The Luxembourg institute for social research, Ilres, was founded in 1978 and conducts numerous surveys in the Grand Duchy, including the study and the surveys. The company was rebranded as TNS Ilres in 2005 after TNS Nipo acquired a stake. Seventeen years later, with TNS no longer an international brand, the company is once again named simply after its acronym, Ilres.
Indeed, TNS was part of the Kantar Group, which has a presence in 90 countries and employs more than 25,000 people. It is still a shareholder in Ilres. "However, our DNA remains deeply rooted in our Luxembourg roots," the local company says.
By rebranding itself as Ilres, the institute wishes to emphasise its expertise in the "Luxembourg and cross-border" markets. The rebranding has also seen the launch of a new logo that emphasises the Luxembourg focus by colouring the “L” in gold so that it stands out from the other, black, letters.
Ilres employed 26 full-time equivalent staff in 2020 (up from 25 in 2002), according to the Registrar of Companies. The company made a profit of €154,427 in that year. Details of Kantar's shareholding are not public.
