The number of people testing positive for covid-19 fell be 2% between 24 and 30 January according to numbers released by the health and education ministries, the national health laboratory (LNS) and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (List).

Fewer PCR tests were carried out during the period--42,155 compared to 39,136 the week before. Fewer people (239) also reported a positive rapid antigen test, although these tests have not been taken into account in the calculation of the positivity rate.

The number of active infections has increased from 27,365 on 23 January to 30,764 on 23 January. The average age of those diagnosed with covid-19 is 28.3 years. Hospitalisation numbers appear stable with a slight increase in new admissions, 63 compared 58 the previous week. But the number of occupied beds in the intensive care units has decreased to 10 from 14. The average age of hospitalised patients is 48.

During the period between 23 and 30 January there were seven new reported deaths related to covid-19, while the average age of the deceased was 81.

The number of people in isolation has increased by 21% while the number of those in quarantine has decreased by 32%.

The report states that it is difficult to determine the source of contamination and the portion of infections with an undetermined source has increased to 41.6%. The family circle accounted for 40% of cases while work (5.5%) and the care sector (3.2%) accounted for far less.

Aiming to increase vaccination the government will set up pop-up vaccination spots in high-traffic areas such as shopping centres and events organised by some municipalities.
