Postal services recorded a turnover of €183.79m in 2020, according to data from an annual report by the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR).

The report’s findings are based on data regarding mail services, parcel services and the state-owned postal service. It includes information from 27 providers active in Luxembourg.

With a year-on-year increase of 2% compared to 2019, the turnover in the postal sector reached €183.79m in 2020. This number is the combined result of turnover from mail (€113.18m) and parcel services (€70.61m).

“The share of turnover of parcel services is steadily increasing and has risen from 35.4% to 38.4% of the total postal sector in 2020, an increase of 3 points,” states the .

Parcel services recorded 13.49 million units delivered, marking an increase of 25.5% compared to 2019. The importance of this type of deliveries has risen since 2016, likely due to the development of e-commerce, which grew in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The number of automatic delivery points (pack up) increased by 14 in 2020 reaching 117, another trend which indicates the increased importance of parcel deliveries.

The grand duchy’s postal sector employs more than 1,900 people of which 1,300 work for POST Luxembourg.
