Prince Louis and his fiancée Scarlett-Lauren Sirgue have called off their engagement over “fundamental differences of opinion,” the couple confirmed to French magazine Point de Vue.

Luxembourg’s royal household in April last year had announced the engagement between Prince Louis and the French lawyer, two years after his divorce from Tessy Antony de Nassau, with whom the prince has two children.

Point de Vue on Tuesday reported having met Prince Louis and Sirgue in Paris for an “unexpected announcement”. The couple jointly said that they had decided to end their engagement over “fundamental differences of opinion” but said that there is “no shadow”.

What exactly these differences are remains unclear. “At the time of our engagement, we obviously discussed questions relating to Scarlett’s entry into a royal family, with all that that entails in terms of protocol,” Prince Louis said. “This posed no difficulty for us.”

The palace has yet to issue a formal statement and at the time of publication the engagement still appeared on Prince Louis’ official biography on the monarchie.lu website.

Sirgue, 30, is a lawyer specialising in victims’ rights after starting her career in family law. She met Prince Louis while working at the same legal mediation firm that works in conflict resolution.

The news of the broken engagement comes after Prince Louis’ ex-wife, Tessy Antony de Nassau, gave birth to a son in August last year with her Swiss financier husband, Frank Floessel, whom she married in July 2021.

The former princess and Prince Louis were divorced in 2019 by a court in London, where the pair had lived with their two sons, princes Gabriel and Noah. They married in 2006, following the birth of their first son, when both were 20 years old.

Louis is the third child of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, following Crown Prince Guillaume and Prince Félix.
