The logo, in the shape of a lion, was carefully constructed and is full of meaning, according to an official press release. “The values of the Prison Service, which were the result of an internal research process, were decisive for the creation of the new visual identity,” reads the statement. Following a reform in 2018, the prison in Schrassig--which on 17 January counted 8 coronavirus cases--chose to update its look to better reflect its updated values.

The lion represents the grand duchy as do the colours. The logo represents a departure from the previous emblem of three watchtowers. Administration pénitentiaire
“The logo emphasises the human being in the centre and is recalled by the small circle above the lion. It refers to Luxembourg by using the lion symbol in a stylised way and by integrating the three colours of the country,” the administration explains. “The institutional aspect is characterised by the shape of the emblem, which sets the framework and promotes a sense of belonging.”
The new logo should also mirror the prison’s new mission, which is to be an actor of security and creator of new perspectives. In this vein, Tanson presented a new project for the promotion of culture in the prison, which the ministry of justice will lead with the ministry of culture and the prison administration.
The administration’s new identity and perspective aims to accompany inmates in their rehabilitation, on an educational, therapeutical and social level, as the prison’s director told RTL.
