Because of a strike in Belgium, Belgian border commuters are likely to see their journeys disrupted from the evening of 23 March until 31 March.

Due to a strike, fewer trains will be running from 23 March 2025 to 30 March 2025 inclusive, SNCB has announced, indicating that it will publish information about day-to-day disruptions on its website the day before.

Last-minute information due to the law on the continuity of the rail transport service, which means that in the event of a strike, mobilised staff must inform the operator of their intention to take part in the strike no later than 72 hours before the start of the mobilisation. It is then on the basis of these declarations that SNCB draws up its transport plan. Depending on the staff available, SNCB plans to set up an alternative train service.

At issue is a mobilisation by the independent rail union (Metisp-Protect) against certain measures in the government agreement, particularly concerning pensions, planned cuts in the SNCB budget and the abolition of the HR Rail department’s human resources service. According to SudInfo, since the end of the summer, “75 strike days have been announced.”

International trains such as the Eurostar, the Inoui TGV and the Eurocity direct should not be affected by this industrial action. On the Luxembourg side, the CFL are talking about a risk of disruption and will provide more details on their website when the time comes. Mobilisations could still take place in May, according to La Libre.

Lines already disrupted

These likely disruptions are in addition to those already announced by CFL. From 24 March 2025 to 29 March 2025, work will disrupt the Luxembourg-Athus or Longwy line via Bacharage-Sanem. Trains will not be running between Luxembourg and Rodange. CFL is planning replacement buses and additional trains on the Luxembourg-Rodange line via Esch-sur-Alzette.
