As part of the "10x6 Women: Leaders' role models" organised by the Paperjam + Delano Club on Tuesday, February 22, Rosa Villalobos, managing director of Macquarie Asset Management Europe, shares her vision of female leadership.

During this conference you will speak about the role models who inspired you, what led you to speak about those? Rosa Villalobos:  I would say that many, many leaders have inspired me, why many and not just a few? And what do they have in common? I have always admired the leaders that have tried to be the best at what they do, to do what they love, or what they are passionate about. So what I have taken away with me after looking at all these role models, and what I believe that they all have in common: principles. But I have focused on three: their persistence, their discipline and their hard work.

Would you say that female leadership is different from male leadership?

I would say that leadership in each person is different. Not because of our gender, but because we are different human beings, with individual values, perceptions, prejudices, biases, personalities, leadership styles, etc. and that makes each one of us unique, with our own individual strengths and weaknesses.I have been inspired by many women, and of course, also men, because they are deeply passionate about what they do, and obviously they enjoy it.

What could we do in order to inspire more women to become leaders?

Their inspiration should come from trying to be the best in their chosen professional career, and the key is to do something that you love, or that you're passionate about or enjoy doing. I think that each person needs to find their passion, and define what success means to them. They shouldn't be afraid of trying new things, even if they might be from a demographic seemingly underrepresented in that group.
