The Christmas school holidays kick off this evening in Luxembourg. Many travellers will therefore be taking the road, rail or air to reach their family and/or holiday destination.
At Luxembourg Airport, 50,000 travellers are expected between 23 and 26 December, says its spokeswoman Rebecca Pecnik. She expects the number of passengers to increase from this Friday afternoon.
There will be more queues and longer waiting times than in the past.
“You should know that there will be more queues and longer waiting times than in the past. If you arrive late and at the last minute, you risk missing your flight,” she warns. Five lines of security checks are planned to deal with this peak.
But to avoid any disappointment, Lux-Airport recommends reserving parking space in advance on its website, arriving in the terminal two hours before take-off even if you have no hold luggage, proceeding directly to the security check, being prepared by placing your liquids in a transparent one-litre bag and preferably limiting yourself to hand luggage.
The airport has 7,866 parking spaces and announces that all six car parks are open to travellers who wish to come to Findel by car.
Canaries dominate demand, Senegal and Cape Verde climb
With the school holidays starting on New Year’s Eve, the desire to leave on Friday is pronounced. However, “due to air slot constraints, LuxairTours destinations with a Saturday departure cannot be operated on Friday,” explains the Luxembourg company. It therefore believes that Saturday and Sunday will remain the biggest days for the tour operator.
The Canary Islands remain the most popular destination from Luxembourg. The sunshine and the wide range of hotels are all assets for the Spanish archipelago. However, LuxairTours has noted “a very positive development” in Senegal and Cape Verde.
It should be noted that for departures on Luxair flights scheduled between 6am and 9am, checking in checked luggage is possible the day before between 7.30pm and 10.30pm. This option is highly recommended by the company to limit any worries on departure and to leave on holiday as serenely as possible.
