French food retailer Grand Frais is preparing to open a store in Wickrange, its second in Luxembourg after opening one in March last year.

In March 2020, when Luxembourg was in lockdown due to the covid-19 pandemic, Grand Frais was preparing to open its first location outside France. The staff was ready to welcome lovers of fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, and cheese and dairy products.

The two companies in Contern (“Le primeur de Contern” and “Le fromager de Contern”), which together employ 17 people, lost almost €700,000, according to the first annual balance sheet--published in April 2021 and regarding the year ending on 30 September, six months after opening. It was still too early, however, to draw any conclusions.

Earlier this year, Grand Frais registered two other companies, “Le primeur de Mersch” and “Le fromager de Mersch”--implying a future site in Mersch--but at the beginning of August it registered two more. These are “Le primeur de Wickrange” and “Le fromager de Wickrange”.

More specs are known about this 5,000m2 site, which includes 168 parking spaces and a full storage facility, and is located between Wickrange and Pontpierre. An opening date is yet to be announced.
