Eight months after the first rumours of a merger between SES and Intelsat, the Luxembourg group has confirmed that discussions are underway. Without prejudging the outcome.

The FT reported in mid-summer that SES and its main rival, Intelsat, were in merger talks, but the rumours were regularly denied. On Wednesday 29 March, the world’s leading satellite company, based in Betzdorf, acknowledged that it “has engaged in discussions regarding a possible combination with Intelsat.”

“At this stage, there can be no certainty that a transaction would materialise,” a short SES statement . “The board of SES remains fully committed to acting in the best interest of SES and its shareholders.”
