Luxembourg on 23 June marks its national day with the annual official ceremony with the grand duke, government, lawmakers and other officials open to members of the public, who can register for the seats available from 9 June.

National day is a grand affair in the grand duchy, with an evening of celebrations on 22 June followed by numerous official engagements the following day.

Among them is an official ceremony celebrated at the Philharmonie from 10am, which usually includes speeches by , prime minister (DP) and president of the Chamber of Deputies (DP).

The ceremony also sees honours awarded in different categories. Honourees in the past have included members of the public who saved someone’s life in an act of courage but the medals also honour achievements in science, literature and other domains.

The philharmonic orchestra every year performs a piece created for the occasion by a local composer.

The ceremony is attended by the royal family, the government, members of parliament, representatives of the judiciary, the diplomatic corps and other branches of Luxembourg public life.

A number of seats every year is reserved for members of the public, who can register for a spot from 9 June at 9am via the .

After the ceremony, a 21-gun salute is fired to celebrate the grand duke. And later in the day, there is the traditional military parade in Luxembourg City and the Te Deum religious services at the Notre Dame cathedral in the capital.
