Housing minister Henri Kox (Déi Gréng) presented a bill authorizing the state’s participation in the financing of the “An der Schmëtt” affordable housing project.

The Fonds du Logement will build 164 housing units in the Syre valley which will be sold or rented. Participating with an estimated €108m, the state will support the project which is in line with Luxembourg’s housing strategy.

"This is an exemplary project in several respects", said Kox. "Firstly, it shows that affordable housing projects can make progress if municipal leaders are committed. Secondly, with good cooperation, as in this case between the municipality and the public developer, innovative projects can be developed - even on sites with a complicated topology and a long history,” he added.

The Syre River which crosses the site will be taken into account in the project’s development. A footbridge will be built to link the north and south of the district. Grouping parking spaces via green carports at the entrance of the neighbourhood will encourage soft mobility and limiting the traffic.

Residents will be incentivised to meet and interact by the staggered layout of the project’s 18 houses which will be located on the outskirts of the neighbourhood.
