The absolute best place to be this summer if you are staying in Luxembourg is the sprawling terrace at Rotondes enjoying DJs and concerts laid on for the consistently superb Congés Annulés festival.

The programmers at Rotondes have done it again. The line-up for this year’s Congés Annulés is a cracker. You’ll get the idea when we say that instrumental rock giants Battles, English post-punk quintet Squid, moody experimental Japanese band Mono and Brighton’s sardonic politico-pop quartet Italia 90 are among the highlights.

As well as a slew of international acts, the programme includes a healthy dose of local artists. Folk-pop singer-songwriter C’est Karma plays on 30 July. Still only 20, Karma has been around for what seems like ages and has just released a new EP,  Amuse Bouche. And another talented young Luxembourg-based female singer-songwriter, Jana Bahrich, brings her Francis of Delirium project to Rotondes following extensive touring in Europe and the United States.

A couple of Australian acts play on 21 and 22 August in the shape of singer-songwriter Grace Cummings, whose voice has been described as “soon-to-be-iconic” by Rolling Stone, and the incredibly eclectic Donny Benét.

The festival closes with what promises to be a blast of a show by German duo Fabian Bremer and Henrik Eichmann, aka AUA, and London-based trio PVA.

More shows may be announced closer to August, but the line-up already is a real treat.  Details of the full programme and tickets, always very reasonably priced, are available via the .
