The Chamber of Deputies has presented its 2021 balance sheet. Of the planned budget of €48m, it spent €46.2m. A large part of this was spent on MPs and staff costs.

The Chamber of Deputies did not spend all of its planned budget for 2021 of €48m, but €1.8m less, for a total of €46.2m.

The €46.2m was used mainly to cover costs related to members and staff. €14.9m went to “parliamentary allowances and various reimbursements for MPs and their staff” and €13.28m to staff costs. The total number of staff increased from 104 to 120.

There were also €10.9m in operating costs and €5.23m in subsidies to political groups.

Submission to a vote

The publication and distribution of the minutes cost €1.3m. €455,000 went to travel expenses for participation in international parliamentary institutions and €147,000 was for the organisation of conferences and extraordinary meetings.

The provisional budget consisted of an allocation of €42.6m and €5.4m from the chamber’s reserve.

The chamber presented its balance sheet to the members of the audit committee on Wednesday 26 October. It will now be put to a vote in a public session. (CSV), chairman of the audit committee, was appointed rapporteur.
