Three Luxembourg co-productions have been selected for the renowned New York Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from 4 to 15 June: “Re-Creation,” “The Wolf, The Fox and the Leopard” and “Reflet dans un diamant mort.”

After the  announced last week, three new co-productions have been selected for the Tribeca Film Festival, an independent film festival launched in 2002 that showcases short films, documentaries and dramas, as well as family films, in various categories. This year’s selection includes three new Luxembourg co-productions. Among them is “Re-Creation,” directed by Jim Sheridan and David Merriman, released in 2024 in Luxembourg. This documentary, which was produced by Luxembourg’s Fabrizio Maltese (Joli Rideau Media) in co-production with Hell’s Kitchen (Ireland) and stars Vicky Krieps, will be presented in the “Spotlight Narrative” category.

For this documentary, Luxembourg was represented by a team made up of Carlo Thiel (image), Christina Schaffer (sets), Carlo Thoss (sound), Magdalena Labuz (costumes), Jasmine Schmit (makeup), Elly Verduyckt (script), Philippe Manderscheid (1st camera assistant), Solveig Harper (production manager), Yannis Meys (1st assistant director), Gilbert Degrand (electrics), Pascal Charlier (grip), Daniel Besnard (props) and Mike Roberts (stage manager). They worked with a team in Ireland to come up with a narrative work that explores personal reconstruction after a tragic episode.

Alongside Luxembourgish actress Krieps are actors Gilbert K. Johnston, Elena Spautz, Claire Johnston-Cauldwell, Maja Jurić and Konstantin Rommelfangen. Based on the fictional trial of Ian Bailey, a man accused of murdering a filmmaker, the docu-drama set in a courtroom is an homage to the film “Twelve Angry Men.”

“The Wolf, The Fox and the Leopard,” the second Luxembourg co-production selected, will compete in the “International Narrative Competition” category. It was co-produced by Alexandra Hoesdorff and Désirée Nosbusch (Deal Production) and directed by Dutchman David Verbeek. This time, Luxembourg worked with the Netherlands, Ireland, Croatia and Taiwan. The film also features several Luxembourg actresses in supporting roles, including Marie Jung, Gintare Parulyte and Myriam Gracia.

“The Luxembourg technical team includes Katja Reinert (makeup), Jean-François Roqueplo (machinery), Vitalius Kiselius (lighting) and Roxanne Peguet (script),” explains the Film Fund. The film tells the story of "a young girl raised by wolves and found in the woods. Subjected to a series of laboratory tests, she is finally freed by two ecologists who see in her a ‘potential saviour of the world.’”

Finally, “Reflet dans un diamant mort”--to be released in Luxembourg in July--is a co-production between Luxembourg, Belgium, Italy and France. It is the third coproduction to be selected for the American festival. This thriller, which “offers a plunge into a mysterious and tense universe,” was co-directed by French directors Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani and co-produced by Luxembourg’s Gilles Chantal (Les Films Fauves).

On screen, we still find some Luxembourg talent such as “actresses Céline Camara, Sophie Mousel and Sylvia Camarda as well as actor Hervé Sogne. The Luxembourg technical team includes Céline Bodson (sound), Corentin Geisen (machinery), Audrey Dhyvert (set design), Cindy Santos (script) and Raoul Nadalet (special effects),” explains the Film Fund. The film tells the story of John, a septuagenarian living in a luxury hotel on the Côte d’Azur. Intrigued by his neighbour, who ends up mysteriously disappearing, John plunges back into his demons...
