This year’s race has attracted respected riders from six World Tour teams  Škoda Tour de Luxembourg

The Škoda Tour de Luxembourg road cycling race takes place from Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 September. The starters include some local riders worth keeping an eye on.

Luxembourg Cycling Federation (Fédération du sport cycliste luxembourgeois) hosts the UCI-approved Škoda Tour de Luxembourg each year. The race start and finish traditionally take place in Luxembourg City.

While the place Guillaume in the city centre has usually served as the start, this year’s race will begin near the new national football and rugby stadium on Boulevard de Kockelscheuer with a presentation of the riders at 12.30pm.

Some disruption to traffic can be expected as the race runs along the route d'Echternach, the rue Munchen-Tesch, rue de Kirchberg, boulevard Prince Charles and boulevard Konrad Adenauer. The cyclists are expected to cross the finish line on boulevard Konrad Adenauer  at the intersection with rue Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi) between 4.10 and 5pm

As well as Luxembourg road race champion Colin Heiderscheid (Leopard Pro Cycling) local cycle fans will be keeping an eye out for Kevin Geniets (Groupama-FDJ).

Other local riders include brothers Tom and Luc Wirtgen (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces WB) and Michel Ries (Arkéa-Samsic). Fränk Schleck was the last Luxemburgish rider to win the overall classification in 2009.

The tour has attracted six World Tour teams who are bringing some of the best-known riders on the circuit. They include Poland’s Rafal Majka of UAE Team Emirates is racing for the first time since the Tour de France, where he showed remarkable support for runner-up Tadej Pogacar in the mountains. is also Another UAE Team Emirates team member, 33-year-old Italian Matteo Trentinis also taking part. He has won a total of eight stages in the three Grand Tours, including three in the Tour de France.

Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team is represented by Davide Ballerini, winner of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2021, and French champion Florian Sénéchal, winner of a stage at the Vuelta a Espana 2021.

Kevin Geniets will be accompanied by Groupama-FDJ teammate Valentin Madouas from France, who finished tenth in the overall classification of the 2022 Tour de France. The Cofidis team includes Spaniard Jesús Herrada, winner of the 2019 Škoda Tour de Luxembourg, and Anthony Perez, a double stage winner of the tour.
