Tourism minister (DP) presented the 2022 report for Luxembourg’s tourism sector which is closing in on pre-pandemic figures from 2019. The “strong growth” referenced by the tourism ministry is reflected in a 53% increase in overnight stays in 2022 compared to the previous year, just 8% lower than in 2019. Youth hostels recorded an increase of 139% compared to 2021, hotel nights--by 44% and nights camp sites--by 54%, shows data by the ministry.
“Data from the tourism industry indicates a very good balance sheet for the summer season, which highlights the fact that interest in Luxembourg as a tourist destination continues to grow, particularly among residents,” said Delles.
Promotion efforts yielding results
Hotels estimate an occupancy rate of 66% for the month of August 2022 (compared to 44% in 2021), revealed national tourism promotion agency Luxembourg for Tourism. In a press release the ministry pointed to the “Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz”, the “Guide for one day” and the “Vakanz genéissen” projects as examples of efforts paying back. The campaigns were aimed at promoting tourism among residents, cross-border commuters and foreign tourists.

In the future, Luxembourg’s new tourism strategy will “be further integrated into the promotion and development of Luxembourg as a tourist destination,” said Delles. Ecological, economic, social and cultural aspects will be taken into account in the country’s plans for attracting more visitors.
