The first official selections of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival have just been released and two Luxembourg co-productions are in the running for an award: the documentary “Jeunesse” and the feature film “The Delinquents.”

The official selection of the 76th Cannes Film Festival was announced on Thursday 13 April. The verdict is that two films co-produced in Luxembourg are among the chosen ones--one in the official competition and the other in the “Un certain regard” category.

The first is a documentary by Chinese director Wang Bing. Entitled “Jeunesse,” it is a co-production of Les Films Fauves (Gilles Chanial) with France, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. The second, “The Delinquents” (”Los Delincuentes” in the original version), is a feature-length fiction film by Argentine filmmaker Rodrigo Moreno. The film is once again a co-production of Les Films Fauves (Gilles Chanial), in association with Argentina, Chile and Brazil. Both co-productions were financially supported by the Luxembourg Film Fund and have Luxembourg professionals in their artistic and technical teams.

A press release from the National Fund for the Support of Audiovisual Production states that the fund will be present at the festival in order to “ensure the promotion of Luxembourg cinema at the largest international film market in the world” with its pavilion located in the international village. The 76th edition of the Cannes Festival will be held from 16 to 27 May 2023 and the “traditional Luxembourg day” will take place on Saturday 20 May.
