Luxembourg has scrapped its covid-19 vaccine and test requirements for travellers arriving by air.

From 22 April those landing from Luxembourg airport will no longer need to provide proof of protection against the virus or a negative test, announced the health and foreign affairs ministry in a press release on 20 April. This should hand the tourism industry a much-needed boost.

Third country nationals will still need to present one of the three documents--vaccination, testing or recovery certificates--upon entry into the grand duchy unless they hold a residence permit or are a family member of a European Union citizen. Restrictions on non-essential travel for third-country nationals also remain in force regardless of the means of transport.

Vaccination certificates issued by Colombian and Malaysian authorities have been added to the list of certificates equivalent to the Luxembourg ones.

The relaxation of the travel restrictions comes as fewer covid infections have been recorded in recent weeks, with a  reported by the health ministry on 20 April.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic situation, Luxair has deplored the inequalities of treatment between the different means of public transport when it came to travel regulations linked to Covid. As such, the airline has always advocated the alleviation of the heavy measures and restrictions applied to air transport,” stated Luxair to Delano.

The airline company also declared it hopes for the compulsory mask wearing on board of aircrafts to be lifted while highlighting that air filtration is carried out on board all Luxair planes which is renewed on average every three minutes getting rid of most pollutants such as dust, allergens, bacterial or viral organisms.
