The vaccination certificates of people who completed an inoculation against the coronavirus will remain valid even if they don’t follow an invitation to receive a booster shot.

Luxembourg is currently rolling out booster shots for the elderly and people with immune deficiencies. People who were vaccinated with the one-shot Johnson & Johnson jab can receive a second dose of the Pfizer/Biontech or Moderna formulas to boost their immunity.

People receiving a booster shot receive a second EU digital certificate, which is needed for the CovidCheck system in Luxembourg and for travel.

However, health authorities confirmed to RTL that the first certificate will remain valid, too, as the booster shot isn’t mandatory. The EU digital certificates issued by Luxembourg are valid for one year, although the health ministry it would review this deadline as scientific evidence around the vaccinations evolves.

The second certificate under EU rules only becomes valid two weeks after the jab. Both certificates are available on MyGuichet.
