The ministry of state on 9 December confirmed an "unacceptable" event had taken place at the Grand Ducal Court, when Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and one of her employees had a major verbal altercation.

The reasons and details of the incident between the grand duchess and a court employee are not known, but the ministry of state has confirmed to the Land newspaper and RTL that a verbal altercation between and one of her employees was deemed "unacceptable". The employee was allegedly abused by the sovereign and then was transferred “for her own safety”, said RTL. Another employee also asked to be transferred.

This new case is likely to further damage the image of the grand duchess. In 2020, the had highlighted deleterious working conditions within the Court following 68 staff departures between 2014 and 2019, including 17 retirements, 16 employees who changed administration, 8 terminations of probationary periods, 16 resignations and 11 dismissals.
