Video surveillance authorisation for three central zones in Luxembourg City and the Luxembourg stadium were renewed following an assessment on its necessity.

The state prosecutor, the communal council and the consultative commission assessed the need for continued video surveillance which was required 12 months after the entry into force of a bill on the matter on 19 July 2021. This decision will be reviewed again in three years. Security minister Henri Kox (déi Gréng) announced the decision following an analysis on the impact of the video surveillance activities carried out by the police.

The Limpertsberg-Glacis district (zone A), the train station district (Zone C), the area surrounding the Luxembourg stadium (zone D) and the footbridge beneath the Adolphe bridge (zone F) will continue to be monitored. Zone C will be subject to video surveillance only during large-scale sporting events or events classified as high risk.

Zones B and E, which includes place Hamilius and the Kirchberg conference centre area not subject to atuthorisation for the maintenance of video surveillance. The police will be allowed to monitor these zones once a ministerial authorisation, governed by a separate law, is granted. The procedure for that has already been launched.
