Foodzilla’s series on summer cocktails by local mixologists this week features the “Pink Smash” served by Leo Duarte and his partner Julien Lamendour.

If you've been walking around Luxembourg City recently, you can't miss this new terrace that is already attracting the region's most discerning night owls and foodies. In addition to being ideally located in the heart of the capital, Amore is also the latest project by Gabriel Boisante and the Hickey brothers, following nearby Bazaar.

While the kitchen is still refining its identity, the wine card is solid and a charming duo swirls the shakers to satisfy aficionados of well-made cocktails. Leo and Julien, under the supervision of Loïc Drouet, play with fresh ingredients and a fun attitude that can also be found in their creation for this summer series: the Pink Smash.

Ingredients

- Lemon-infused vodka, 40ml

- Homemade strawberry syrup, 15ml

- Spicy red basil syrup (pepper, cardamom), 10ml

- Rosé (a good Côtes de Provence, if possible), 70ml

- Indian tonic, one shot

- 1 macerated strawberry

- 6 red basil leaves

To prepare it, mix all the ingredients in a shaker, first for a dry shake, then adding a few ice cubes for a second shake. The Pink Smash is served in a highball glass, i.e. a large long drink glass. Pour through a fine sieve for best results.

Precision in the dosage, the service and the presentation are all assets for a Pink Smash worthy of the one made by Leo Duarte... (Photo: Romain Gamba/Maison Moderne)

Finally, decorate with a few small red basil leaves for a summery, vegetal touch.

The Pink Smash offers to see life in pink... at least for the time of a cocktail on the terrace of Amore! (Photo: Romain Gamba/Maison Moderne)
