Born in the mid-1960s, when the Luxembourg ministry of tourism wanted to push national tourism, the walking circuits around Luxembourg have grown to 201 in total. The government on 6 December announced they would now become safer and clearer.

Luxembourg has seen its landscape change a lot over the last sixty years. Which means that the walkways that allowed pedestrians to explore Luxembourg’s beauty aren’t exactly as adapted as they need to be. This is the observation Luxembourg’s ministry of tourism has made.

Tourism minister Lux Delles (DP), in an official statement, reminded that “hiking is certainly the best way to (re-)discover Luxembourg. We are constantly striving to improve the quality of our network of self-guided tours,” thanking in passing those who cared for the paths for their labour.

Among the changes Delles mentions are revisions to the paths—to see which ones are in order and which ones need to be taken off the map--and a new two-way sign-posting system featuring QR codes. These will allow hikers to load maps on their smartphone.

The update has already begun in the north of the grand duchy, with the end of the modifications planned for 2023.
