Founded in 2010, Wedos started out as a provider of web hosting, virtual private servers (VPS) and dedicated servers in the Czech Republic. In response to the increasing number of cyber threats worldwide, the company has refocused its activities on cybersecurity solutions under the Wedos Global brand and operates a global network of more than 120 points of presence (POPs)--including a significant presence in Luxembourg--to ensure that denial of service (DDOS) attacks have little or no impact on companies or administrations under attack.
In a for Luxembourg Trade and Invest, founder Josef Grill says that the decision to relocate the head office was taken because of the significant differences between the business environments in the Czech Republic and Luxembourg. Although taxes are lower in the Czech Republic, “bureaucratic hurdles” make it difficult for businesses to progress; Luxembourg, on the other hand, offers a more “business-friendly atmosphere,” where growth and innovation are actively encouraged, he explains. The country has an advanced digital infrastructure and a strategic position at the heart of Europe, he adds.
The company, which opened its Luxembourg headquarters before the summer, intends to set up more POPs in Luxembourg to improve the country’s cyber security capabilities. The company has around twenty employees and annual sales of €17m. Its business model is based on highly advanced automation, which reduces its wage costs.
