This weekend marks the return of the Schueberfouer for its 682nd edition! From Friday to 11 September, enjoy the attractions and entertainment on the Champ de Glacis, right in the heart of the city. As well as this iconic funfair, don’t miss the open-air cinema screenings, art workshops and an antiques market. Here are the must-see events in and around Luxembourg.

In Luxembourg

Thursday 22 August

The books of Pollen. Join artist Jasmina Al-Qaisi for a unique exploration of the links between pollen and pollinators through sound art and explore the sounds and patterns created from nature. This project invites participants to create singable patterns inspired by nature, offering an immersive and interactive artistic experience.

Sunset Cinema, open-air screening: “A Star is Born.” Discover the film “A Star is Born” in an exceptional setting during this screening. Friday 23 August

Inauguration of the 682nd edition of the Schueberfouer. Attend the , one of Luxembourg’s most emblematic events. Founded by Jean l’Aveugle in 1340, this funfair, with its rides, games and traditional gastronomic delights such as Gromperekichelcher and Grillwurscht, promises unforgettable moments for all the family from 23 August to 11 September. The Glacis parking lot is transformed into a veritable festive village where visitors can enjoy the unique atmosphere of this Luxembourg festival, set against a backdrop of modern attractions and a variety of shows.

Open-air cinema, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.” Come to the Dr F. Kons square in Remich for an open-air cinema evening featuring the screening of “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.” A family event with snacks and drinks available on site.

Xanti Schawinsky: “Play, Life, Illusion - a Retrospective” + “Schawinsky Reloaded” by Monster Chetwynd. This  outside Switzerland. Inspired by the spirit of the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College, Schawinsky explored a variety of artistic fields, including stage direction, set design, photography and painting. The exhibition also includes a large-scale installation by Monster Chetwynd, created in response to Schawinsky’s work.

The Paralympic Flame in Amnéville. Experience an historic moment as the Paralympic Flame passes through Amnéville, marking the start of the first Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Relay runners Michel Munsch and Sarah Helck will cross the town, carrying a strong message of inclusion and surpassing oneself. A host of sporting activities and a breakdance show will enliven this unforgettable day.

In Metz

Mirabelle festival. From Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 August, Metz is getting ready to celebrate the mirabelle in all its forms. The festivities will take place mainly on the Esplanade and the Plan d’Eau, with highlights including the crowning of the Mirabelle Queen, the market of flavours and arts, and a spectacular water parade. New features for this 2024 edition include the “Mirabelle du rire,” the “Quattropole Sessions” and original events such as the Bal à JO and a brand new karaoke concert. Concerts by groups such as The Puppini Sisters and Naive New Beaters will also liven up the evenings.

Exceptional glass-blowing event. As part of the Mirabelle festival, Inspire Metz--Office de Tourisme is organising a unique glass-blowing demonstration on Saturday 24 August. From 11am to 5 pm, come and watch master glassblower Fabrice Oberhauser create mirabelle plums in glass. This event highlights local craftsmanship and offers a rare opportunity to admire this delicate art up close.

Where: Agence Inspire Metz--Tourist Office, 2 place d’Armes J.F. Blondel. When? Saturday 24 August, from 11am to 5pm. How much will it cost? Free admission.

Metz Plage. Metz Plage offers free sporting and cultural activities. Take advantage of the natural swimming area, sports fields, swimming pools and aquapark. New this year is “La Paillote,” a guinguette offering food, drink and relaxation areas. Highlights include karaoke nights, DJ sets, concerts and events linked to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Constellations international festival. For its eighth edition, the festival is offering two main routes: a night-time route, “Pierres numériques,” showcasing digital art with projections and immersive installations, and a daytime route, “Art & Jardins,” combining art and nature along the waterways. The festival also includes a programme of urban art, reinterpreting public space through contemporary works.

In Paris

Comics on every floor. On the programme: several exhibitions devoted to the art of comics, including one dedicated to Corto Maltese. From Franco-Belgian comics to manga, the exhibition reveals the artistic creation of 1964 to the present day. It’s also an opportunity to revisit the Centre Pompidou’s permanent collections before it closes for renovations in early 2025.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton celebrates Olympism with an exhibition in which artists such as Abraham Poincheval, Andreas Gursky, Roman Signer, Omar Victor Diop and Jean-Michel Basquiat reinterpret sport in poetic and surprising ways. The works range from a hot-air balloon suspended in space to cross-country skiers battling mountains, floating kayaks and historical figures in fancy dress, offering a unique artistic take on sport.
