Unbeatable
A few years after its opening, the Au Pain de Mary bakery is still a favourite. Whether you go there for a nice loaf of bread, a crazy palmier or a pastry, you rarely leave with an empty basket...
Au Pain de Mary: 40, rue de Gasperich, Luxembourg (Gasperich), T. 28 77 70 57
New star
It's hard not to understand the success of this new bakery when you see the queue that can sometimes form outside its Limpertsberg outlet... Pascal's bread and pastries are a hit. Look out for the L'Artisan bread, made with country flour, cranberries, raisins, hazelnuts and figs, which is back this week.
Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Pascal: 80, avenue Victor Hugo, Luxembourg (Limpertsberg), T. 27 76 32 46
Organic
In Gasperich, the Tartefine bakery was born out of the acclaimed Scott bakery, already renowned for the quality of its products and its organic production. With its artisanal know-how and experience in Bonnevoie, Tartefine has followed in the footsteps of the previous bakery and offers a nice range of organic breads, pastries and cakes (some of which are vegan and/or gluten-free).

Speaking of Bonnevoie, you can also find good organic bread produced by Bakhaus, as well as many other good things, at Alavita and Alavita Kitchen, as well as many other good things.

Timeless, in town
Still in Bonnevoie, but also elsewhere in the capital, it is impossible to talk about a good loaf of bread--and especially croissants--without mentioning Hoffmann. Not necessarily for their baguettes, but we definitely recommend their rustic breads with wild yeast. It is also impossible to go in without leaving with a tasty Riesling pâté or one of their delicious home-made muffins...
Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Hoffmann: 200, rue d'Itzig (Bonnevoie) // 18, avenue de la Porte-Neuve (city centre) // 58, avenue de la Liberté (Gare),
Timeless, in the south...
In Esch-sur-Alzette, you’ll find acclaimed pastry chef Gérard Cayotte, who has been delighting everyone in the south with a sweet tooth for more than 20 years, especially with his speciality: the cheese tart! If he is first and foremost a pastry chef, chocolate maker and ice cream maker, Cayotte also offers some good breads in his Esch shop, as well as in his second address in Pétange. Give the country baguette a try.

A safe bet
Connoisseurs will tell you: the best bread you can find in Luxembourg often comes from Pains & Tradition. If some of its superb range can be found in supermarkets, we prefer to send you to Le Gourmet in Junglinster, where you can not only bag a good loaf, but also good home-smoked fish or one of the tasty spreads from the delicatessen counter...
Le Gourmet: Langwies Shopping Centre, Junglinster, T. 26 78 25 31
Just over the border
In Villerupt, the Ponzoni bakery--seen in "La Meilleure Boulangerie de France" on M6-- and its craftsmen make a really great bread. The address is also well known to night owls past a certain age, who have knocked on the door at 5 o'clock in the morning to enjoy the freshest hot Lorraine pâtés. Thanks to its success, the Maison Ponzoni now has 3 establishments (2 in Villerupt, and 1 in Hussigny-Godbrange).
