One Luxembourg company that will be attending Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in January (part of Expo 2020 Dubai) is H2oVortex, a firm hoping to become a world leader in water enhancement. We spoke to cofounder Hakan Grönlund and managing partner Alain Mestat about their company and why they’ll be at ADSW next year.

Delano: Could you introduce us to H2oVortex?

HG and AM: H2oVortex is a water technology company that has developed a disruptive technology platform called Vortex Process Technology (VPT). VPT enables a substantial reduction of water/energy consumption within industrial applications, which currently represent in some areas of the world up to 59% of the annual water usage.

H2oVortex’s dedicated nature-based solution applied to cooling towers, the “industrial vortex generator” (IVG-CT), significantly reduces water consumption by up to 50%, reduces energy consumption by up to 10% and totally eliminates 100% of all chemical usage. As a result, VPT enables a substantial increase in sustainability and provides considerable reductions in the CO2 footprint of industrial and commercial activities.

Why did you decide to attend Sustainability Week at Expo 2020 Dubai?

Due to climatic constraints, the Middle East relies on large amounts of industrial cooling in order to provide cooling not just for manufacturing and production sites, but also for comfort within commercial and residential buildings. Attending the World Expo in Dubai should give our water technology added visibility and allow us to gain more exposure.

What do you hope to achieve while you’re there?

Understanding that the World Expo will attract companies from around the world, we are interested in meeting new prospective partners from different backgrounds with whom we could further expand our reach. The World Expo represents a unique stage for us.

It sounds like H2oVortex’s primary focus is to help your clients save water and energy. How important are companies like yours right now? Are there enough people working, in the professional sphere, towards goals like these?

In addition to saving water and energy, we totally eliminate the need for chemical usage, rendering the entire operational process even more circular. Given current ecological circumstances, the world needs to act in a more responsible, more sustainable way. Water and energy are the two main challenges the world is currently facing and H2oVortex has the solutions to improve on the current circumstances in a resilient and cost effective way.

What’s next for your company?

Given the fact that our technology is mature (with over 1,000 VPT users around the world) we are looking for a strategic partner who will allow us to further expand our business.
