The Luxembourgish-Portuguese contemporary dancer explains his desire to re-discover himself inspired his recent move to Lisbon. Born in Esch-sur-Alzette, Cardoso has performed in 11 countries.

Cardoso started dancing at the music conservatory in Esch-sur-Alzette during his high-school studies and signed his first contract at the age of 16, performing alongside South African dance guru Tebby Ramasike. After working to raise some funds, Cardoso went on to the professional dance school, Epsedanse, in Montpellier.

His expertise also covers jazz and ballet; however, he chooses to specialise in contemporary dance.

“I love the freedom of expression in [contemporary] dance,” he explains. He moved to Lisbon in August 2022 to rediscover his roots and “discover myself as a person [and] as an artiste,” he says.

He’s participated in dance classes in New York and performed both solo or in a group in France, Germany, Norway, Denmark, England, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Morocco.

He recently opened his own dance company with two of his projects “Raum” and “Dear mum”, exploring the themes of mental health, self-reflection, LGBTQ+ and human rights.
