Winter sales will start this Monday 2 January in Luxembourg, 24 hours before their neighbours in Belgium and Lorraine. The operation will last until 28 January.

Now that Black Friday and Christmas shopping are behind us, it's time for the winter sales, which start this Monday 2 January in Luxembourg. For the occasion, shops will be exceptionally open on Sundays 8, 15 and 22 January, according to the Luxembourg commerce confederation (CLC).

VAT at 16% for one year

A special feature of this year's winter sales is the introduction of a one percentage point reduction in VAT. This applies to adult clothing and footwear, which is no longer subject to 17% but 16%. Nothing changes for children's items, however, as they are subject to the ultra-low rate of 3%.

Luxembourg opens the ball of promotions 24 hours before its neighbours in Belgium and Lorraine, where the operation is planned until the end of January. In Germany, retailers are free to apply end-of-season discounts as they see fit.

In the Grand Duchy, discounts have already been visible in fashion stores since the beginning of the week. This is a foretaste of the sales for customers who are eager to shop at reduced prices.
