The cycling connection between Millewee and the Buchler bridge in Luxembourg City is far from completion, despite having exceeded its deadline, with works now halted until further notice.

The path--meant to allow cyclists and pedestrians to travel safely between both locations--was expected to be ready at the end of 2021, deputy Marc Goergen (Pirate Party) said directed at transport minister François Bausch (déi Gréng). Goergen brought the topic up in connection to tram works meant to connect the Gare stop to the Bonnevoie neighbourhood by September of this year.

However, while construction has begun, the surrounding plans for better so-called soft mobility have stalled. Bausch revealed that this is due to more questions surrounding the cycling ramp arising during works. According to the minister, more time is needed to make the path more user-friendly. “Because these reflections haven’t completely matured yet, and more actors are involved in this project, it is currently not possible to give a date for the completion of this connection,” he said.

Cycling groups have long complained over Luxembourg City’s inadequate infrastructure, saying it cyclists vulnerable to accidents and prevents more people from using a bike.
