The annual Luxembourg sports awards ceremony at the Casino 2000 in Mondorf on Thursday evening saw two women and two men share the individual titles, while the team of the year award went to the men’s national football team.

The sharing of the women’s prize by table tennis doubles partners Ni Xia Lian and Sarah De Nutte was hardly surprising or unusual. In August they teamed up to win bronze at the European Table Tennis Championships in Munich. This followed their third place in the World Championships in Houston, Texas last year. Ni Xia Lian had just turned 59 when the pair competed in Munich.

The men’s title was also shared after remarkable achievements from cyclist Bob Jungels, who won the tenth stage at this year’s Tour de France, and racing driver Dylan Pereira, who won the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2022 title.

The Luxembourg men’s national football team claimed the team title after a year in which it set a record of  five consecutive matches undefeated and came within a whisker of defeating Turkey in Istanbul in the Uefa Nations League. Red Lions coach Luc Holtz also picked up the coach of the year award.
