Delano’s Tracy Heindrichs and Ara City Radio’s Tom Clarke on Monday 27 February looked at the week ahead, discussing the upcoming tripartite meeting between the government and social partners, things to do over the week and a personal recommendation.

Tracy and Tom talked about the tripartite meeting convened on 3 March by the government and stakeholders. This time, the trade unions, employers and state officials will meet to talk about solutions to combat inflation in 2024, after statistics bureau Statec delivered a forecast that predicted a potential inflationary shock where inflation could climb from 3.4% in 2023 to 4.8% in 2024 due to existing tripartite aids coming to an end.

This tripartite meeting takes place during a double-election year, with coalition partners starting to take different stands on key matters. The big topics of this tripartite will be the phasing out of existing subsidies and the adaptation of the tax rate scale. While current finance minister Yuriko Backes (DP) has said that it would be irresponsible to undertake this now--the tax table hasn’t been adapted since 2017 despite 6 indexations taking place since then--coalition partner LSAP has spoken out in favour of the adjustment, as did the biggest opposition party in parliament, the CSV. Déi Gréng have said they are supportive of it, though they don’t make it their priority. The discussion and its outcomes could play a big role in the next elections.

What’s on?

Tracy also recommended three things to do over the coming days and weeks. On Wednesday 1 March, the annual organised by the Luxembourg film fund will kick off--visitors will be able to discover different works in virtual reality and even rent the headsets to enjoy the experience at home.

From 3 March to 11 March, you will be able to sell your used bike or buy a new secondhand one at the Belle Etoile . Or you could opt to join the night on Saturday 4 March. This will require a participation fee but it will include a Mexican dinner and be a BYOB event.

Tip of the week

Tracy’s tip of the week this time around was an HBO TV show called ‘. This series is based on a video game where a man and a teenager have to travel across the US in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Though the premise sounds typical for the trope, the writing and acting--the main characters are Pedro Pascal and Belle Ramsey, both of Game of Thrones fame--make it worth it. The set designs and exploration of various questions like ‘what would we do if our current system were to collapse?’ are also part of the charm of the show.

Tracy also recommended the 1982 classic by Chemise.

Tune in again on Monday 6 March around 8:30am on Ara City Radio (87.8 - 102.9 -105.2 FM) or listen to the podcast on Delano.
