At a press conference presenting its 2023 activity report on 22 April 2024, the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association (ABBL) announced a major change in its governance. The chairman of its board of directors, , will be stepping down after six years and three terms in the post. The person elected by ABBL members to take over is , CEO of Edmond de Rothschild (Europe).
After starting his career at Banque Générale du Luxembourg, Stein worked at Fortis, where he was group CEO private banking, and at BNP Paribas (Switzerland), where he was director-general. He joined Union Bancaire Privée in 2010 as CEO of UBP (Europe) SA in Luxembourg, then joined the KBL European Private Bankers group as group CEO private banking, before being appointed group CEO and president of the board of directors.
Between 2018 and 2022, Stein was an independent non-executive director specialising in the strategy and transformation of financial institutions. He joined Edmond de Rothschild (Europe) as a member of the supervisory board in 2018 and was appointed CEO in 2019.
Hoffmann was first . He has been chairman of the board of directors of Raiffeisen Bank since 2020, where he previously served as CEO. Hoffmann will now take on the role of vice chairman at the ABBL. Hoffmann is also vice president of the Union des entreprises luxembourgeoises (UEL), a member of the Haut comité de la Place Financière (advisory council to the government), a member of the executive board of the European Association of Cooperative Banks, a member of the board of directors of the European Banking Federation and a member of the plenary assembly of the Chamber of Commerce for the “Banks, rural funds and other activities” sector.
