New World Theatre Club is holding auditions for its next production, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.
Written by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey, the play is set in a mental institution. Nurse Ratched runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. But when the rebellious Randle Patrick McMurphy gets transferred to her ward, a battle of wills ensues.
The play first premiered on Broadway in November 1963 following the success of Ken Kesey’s novel, published the previous year. It was subsequently made into an Oscar winning film in 1975 starring Jack Nicholson as McMurphy and Louise Fletcher as Nurse Ratched.
The play depends strongly on ensemble work, so the auditions will take the form of a workshop involving all auditionees. Anyone interested needs to be at the auditions at 2pm and should be prepared to stay for 3 hours. Photo: Shutterstock.
