Canadian roots singer-songwriter Sarah Jane Scouten plays De Gudde Wëllen this Wednesday.
Acclaimed three-time Canadian Folk Music Award nominee Sarah Jane Scouten is about to release her fourth full-length album, “Confessions”, and plays De Gudde Wëllen as a one-off show ahead of a tour of Germany next year.
The album has already spawned two singles, “You are the Medicine” and “Ballad Of A Southern Midwife”, which was originally written for her first album 10 years ago. The latter song, Scouten says, is about “the overlap of religious intolerance and sexual oppression and a woman’s fight to live on her own terms, regardless of the consequences.”
Folk Radio, writing about her previous album, “When The Bloom Falls From The Rose” said Scouten was “steeped in old time country and Canadian folk-roots…blessed with a voice that can do both pure and sweet and raw and gritty…”
