The Rockhal’s two-day celebration of upcoming artists is a great place to discover new music.
Now in its 12th year, Sonic Visions is cooler than ever now that it’s held in the former blast furnace opposite the music venue. Rockhal CEO Olivier Toth says he allows his bookers--Arnaud Velvelovich and Paul Bradshaw--carte blanche on picking the line-up. This year sees a mix of local acts including psychedelic space rock outfit The Choppy Bumpy Peaches, indie power pop lads Tuys and soul singer Christina Kalyss alongside fairly well-established artists in the shape of Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy and Belgian indie pop group Balthazar.
But the festival is really about discovering new artists. Delano’s pick of the bunch for the 2019 line-up includes Berlin’s energetic live techno band Komfortrauschen, beautifully cool and soulful British experimental artist Eckoes (photo), Vienna’s hip hop-jazz outfit Sketches on Duality, and London’s wonderfully joyful jazz afrobeat quintet Ezra Collective and 20-year old Norwegian indie pop singer Girl in Red.
