Psychedelic Krautrock twosome Moon Duo play a show at de Gudde Wëllen on Thursday.
Formed by Wooden Shjips’s Erik “Ripley” Johnson and his wife Sanae Yamada, Moon Duo play a groove-laden, danceable form of space disco Krautrock that some critics say now eclipses their parent band.
Latest album “Stars Are The Light” is said by The Line of Best Fit’s Chris Todd to “drift unassumingly in a dreamlike state” as Yamada’s synth work comes to the forefront and Johnson appears content to use “splashes of guitar as punctuation points”. The result is a record that includes such sublime tracks as ‘Lost Heads’, with its hypnotic and captivating rhythm or the trippy noodlings of ‘Eternal Shore’, which is a perfect bliss out.
The duo played at Congés Annulés a few years ago and were quote excellent. In the smaller confines of the Gudde Wëllen, the gig promises to be a communal journey.
